Nurturing Talent
Nurturing Talent
At Abbey Lane, we recognise that it can take time for each of our pupils to find their talent. We ensure that there is a variety of opportunities for our pupils to experience outside of our curriculum, giving them the chance to find the moment that makes them shine.
Art competitions
Each year we take part in a variety of events which showcase the work of our talented artists: Louise Haigh's Christmas Card competition and Sheffield Young Artists.
Everyone a writer
Each year we take part in the Meadowhead Community Learning Trust creative writing competition. It encourages all pupils whatever their age or experience to create a piece of writing, which is then entered into the competition. Selected winners are then invited to take part in a presentation evening, where their piece of work is put together with all the other winners to create an anthology.
Music lessons
We recognise that there are many benefits to learning to play an instrument. We have peripatetic teachers who come into school and teach a range of instruments: keyboard, drums, violin and guitar. If you would like more information about music lessons for your child, leaflets for Elegance Music can be obtained at the school office.
Pop Maths Quiz
Each year Sheffield Hallam University host a Pop Maths Quiz. A quiz, which widens the appeal of Maths to our Y6 pupils in a fun, creative way. Held at their main campus, team of 6 pupils go head to head with teams from all over South Yorkshire. With the opportunity to attend guest lectures afterwards, this is a fun and interesting day for all our enthusiastic Mathematicians.
